Our Story

We are a group of first-generation American friends with roots tied to the lands of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Just as our families in South Asia have bonded over cups of hot chai and kahwa over the years, we too spend time with each other sharing our histories, culture, and ideas while sipping on tea and coffee.

 

Khyber Coffee and Tea House was established in 2023 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and is inspired by our love for coffee and our heritage as we engage in conversation with each other and build community. The Khyber Pass is a historically significant mountain pass which connects the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan with Afghanistan and represents centuries of exchange in trade, culture, faith, and ideas. Within the historical trade routes of the Khyber Pass, coffee and tea were frequently shared amongst traders and local residents. Inspired by the Khyber entrance into the “Land of Hospitality,” it is our hope that Khyber Coffee and Tea House welcomes everyone to celebrate our cultures and personal stories over a delicious cup of chai.
